We’ve stumbled upon a little gem of an iPhone game. Mystery Mania, adds heart to any iDevice with its deserted mansion, 27 riddle-tastic rooms, and amnesia-suffering robot. Being released on EA’s mobile site a few months ago, Mystery Mania has arrived for the iPhone and iPod touch in full finger tapping glory. You’ll have at least a couple hours of fun with this great game.
The game’s lead character F8 is certainly the skeleton holding this title together. After waking up from a long sleep (we’re talking years), F8 realizes he has no recollection of his past. So, players must lead him through a path of discovery helping him understand why he’s here and what his mission is. All the rooms in the mansion have a secret that must be unlocked in order to progress throughout the game. Clues are placed in each room to aid in finding the solution. But it’s not all roses. F8 often finds himself in a predicament such as being electrocuted or suffering from a dog bite. But he’s a good sport and is always up for more mystery solving.
Mystery Mania doesn’t include much in the way of formal instructions. But this is all part of the fun. Logic is the only tool you’ll have to help F8 on his way. There are several items in each room that you must combine or activate in a prescribed order to unlock the exit. For example, you can use a candle on the wall to light a burner that’s on the table. Then have F8 mix chemicals atop the burner and watch the fun begin. It really is amusing. Truthfully, the game can be a head-scratcher at times, but we found that all rooms could be solved after a few tries. The key is to use your observation skills.
In the way of graphics, Mystery Mania will remind you of an online flash game. Vivid color look great, but the sets feel a little flat. The visual department isn’t much to write your friends about. No spoken audio is included. Therefore, F8 interacts with his surrounding acquaintances by way of dialogue boards. Eerie music has bee provided by EA. It fits the whole mood of the game. Dallas Tops Atlanta As Romo Stars
Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo has been plagued by inconsistency over the past two seasons, but on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons he was in top form. Romo threw for 311 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions as Dallas ripped the visiting Falcons by a final score of 37-21. Part of the problem in finding drugs which may be effective for dementia is that our ideas about what constitutes dementia have been undergoing radical change in recent years. It had been traditional to distinguish between Alzheimer’s dementia, or senile dementia of the Alzheimer’s type (SDAT) and multi-infarct dementia (MID), which is theoretically caused by small strokes which insidiously pick off brain tissue to the point where an individual’s cognitive function is compromised.
It was originally thought that MID accounted for 60%+ of the dementias. Accordingly, early attempts to treat the dementias concentrated on the multi-infarct dementias. The initial hypothesis was that these multiple small strokes were being caused by a process of hardening of the arteries, sometimes called arteriosclerosis and sometimes atherosclerosis (although these terms refer to two quite different disorders) which impaired blood supply to the brain. The logical treatment, therefore, for this condition was to attempt to dilate blood vessels. This led to the use of a wide number of vasodilating drugs such as hydralazine.
It is quite rare now for such drugs to be used for this purpose. Arguably, if anything, such treatment may have made the condition somewhat worse in that a potential effect of vasodilators is the reduction of blood pressure and reducing blood pressure would mean that the brain would be less perfused with blood, as one of the functions of blood pressure in the first instance is to provide the propulsive force to send blood up against the force of gravity to perfuse the brain.

More recent attempts to treat the dementias have proceeded on the basis that Alzheimer’s dementia is the commonest form of dementia. Historically, when early work in psychopharmacology began, there were only four known neurotransmitters – noradrenaline, 5-HT, dopamine and acetylcholine (ACh). Noradrenaline quickly became the neurotransmitter involved in depression and mood disorders. Dopamine was known to be involved in Parkinson’s disease, and, when it became clear that neuroleptics acted on it, schizophrenia, after which the psychoses in general came to be seen as disorders of dopamine neurotransmission. For the most part, 5-HT was associated with either depression or anxiety. This left ACh without a function. It seemed convenient to parcel it out to the dementias.
There was, in addition, some clinical evidence in favour of an association between the cholinergic system and dementia. A Reality Predicated on Myth

Firstly, it feeds on our need for authority. Although we all make pretence to free thought and free will, the truth is that we reserve the need to use them wherever possible. Mankind is a lazy species, preferring to let his life be governed by a chain of automatically generated responses to his surroundings. The reason why our day-to-day lives follow a constant pattern is that we are comforted by experiencing the familiar. It saves us from the trouble of having to think for ourselves.

The next layer is the group, or tribal, level of trance. Human beings, being social animals, have a natural need to organize into groups. Even the most individualistic among us begins to suffer withdrawal symptoms if we are separated from human contact for too long. Each group exerts influence on its members. Even in the absence of a defined set of rules the members of the group must abide by, over time the group will exert a homogenizing influence on those within it. This will impact how those within the group will see the world, and their place in it.
The next level is the societal trance. This is a collection of related myths, which frame the worldview of society. Examples of this are the myth of scarcity, law and order, the sanctity of science, etc. Individually, these myths can be challenged, but taken together they are daunting.
At the heart of it all is the Myth of Linearity, which claims that they world is governed and outcomes determined according to a set of inflexible logical rules. It holds that everything is interdependent, and as such unites all the other myths and legitimises them with the stamp of “fact”.
It is time to bring about the end to this trance and reject the myths surrounding us. We cannot know what society will look like when freed from these myths, but I for one would like to find out.
